Throughout Italy's wine producing areas the principal wine producers have created organizations whose primary purposes include the continuing development of locally grown grape varieties and wine production methods. These organizations - known as consortia - are also keenly interested in attracting people from around the world to their properties to create a deeper interest in their wines and thus, enhance their export opportunities.
One great way of exploring Italy is to follow Le Strade del Vino in the regions that interest you most. Along the way you will be able to tasting the wines, but you will also encounter the people who make a living in this most congenial industry, experience extraordinary landscapes, visit ancient towns and stay in small hotels, country inns, Bed and Breakfasts or on the wine estates themselves.
